wenn ärzte töten

WENN ÄRZTE TÖTEN

The Jewish psychologist and psychiatrist Robert Jay Lifton visited 80 Auschwitz survivors and 40 Holocaust perpetrators, mainly former Nazi physicians. In the film he describes his approach and charts the way in which ordinary doctors not only Nazis change from healers to killers.
The film’s aim is to bring to life and portray on screen things which were embedded deep in the psyche of people. So it became clear that the pictures Robert Jay Lifton evokes in the minds of the audience are more moving and impressive than all the additional material we had got.

"THE LAST DAYS"
from the label NIGHT OF THE SHORTS

THE LAST DAYS: The programme THE LAST DAYS reflects on the borders of human emotions without blanking out the focus on war [Greenhorn], peace and german history. [The plan of Mr. Thomaschek] With a strong atmospherical closeness the selected short films are about people in extreme emotional situations [Anna and the soldier] like fury, blame, suspicion or which became victims of battle and desperation [The last days]. A topical arrangement which connects thrilling destinies [The red jacket] and thus, guarantees exiting entertainment [Snipers Alley]

CINEMA RELEASE: Thursday 19th October 2006

"THE RUNAWAYS"
from the label NIGHT OF THE SHORTS

THE RUNAWAYS: To run away, conquer the whole world and more than anything grow up quickly, who didn't want to do that as a child? Today most of us know better than that, but the 6 young heroes from our compilation of short films still dream about being grown up and are ready to fight for their rights [JAN-YUSUF] and dreams. Effortlessly they crack the hard shell of the grown-ups [RUNAWAYS], and remind us of a time when we were still full of enterprising spirit, fearlessness and hope.

With lots of anecdotes and big heartwarming  button eyes [VINCENT], this programme takes us back to a part of our lives that we have almost forgotten and helps us see the world again through children's eyes. Despite all the unpleasant trials of courage and the success which we celebrate when nobody is looking [TRIUMPH OF THE NON-SWIMMER], the film programme kindles the desire in us to be a child again [REMEMBER]. And so, whoever stills believes in the big bad wolf [MARCO AND THE WOLF], or wants to do so again, he is invited by THE RUNAWAYS to revel in childhood dreams.

CINEMA RELEASE: Thursday 21st September 2006

"EXOTICORE"

the new NIGHT OF THE SHORTS compilation at the cinema

EXOTICORE: From the point of view of "the others" EXOTICORE shows us emotionally what it means to be different. The diverse possibilites of how we perceive ourselves and how this is done by our environment are mixed up with each other and, sometimes, overstep the borders between fantasy and reality. Thereby not only the protagonists and the stories are exotic, but also the style and the making of the seven short films. At the end always remains the question: What difference does it make? Drama.

CINEMA RELEASE: Thursday 10th August 2006

"BRAZIL INSIDE"
NIGHT OF THE SHORTS compilation at the cinema

BRAZIL INSIDE: The BRAZIL INSIDE compilation consists of two documentary films, a drama and a comedy. The Brazilian directors reflect in their films the imaginative screenland of Brazil and the Brazilian mulifaced lifestyle. The shortfilm programm tells about the diversity of the biggest Latin American state while the spectator is taken along within the different live-in world of the Brazilian. They reflect limits and extremes as well as hope and humor of the Brazilian people.

 "YOUNG, FRESH, IN LOVE"
the new NIGHT OF THE SHORTS compilation at the cinema

YOUNG , FRESH, IN LOVE: The tales feature how difficult and easy at the same time life can be if someone has at least one of these three attributes. Because of love women do crazy things. On that score the young and fresh characters in these four short films are true experts. They demonstrate that they have ingenuity, strength, emotions and especially a big heart.

Newcomers like the "First Steps Award" winner Christine Wiederkehr, Sven Taddicken ("Emma´s Luck"), Sören Voigt, Saskia Jell and Kaat Beels surprise the viewer with their films "Flea!", "Stay like this", "Calls", "Blind", "Cologne" and their imaginative storytelling.

CINEMA RELEASE: Thursday 08th June 2006

 "GOOD TIMES"
the new NIGHT OF THE SHORTS compilation at the cinema

romantic, unexpected, facetious and explosiv!

GOOD TIMES: The seven short films introduce us good times on emotions like hope, love, trouble and joy. At the same time the short film programme plays with the unexpected, ironical turnarounds which good times often bring along. How often our senses play tricks on ourselves because of good times and how we stand in our own way is featured by these short films. The films of this compilation ask whether we can always trust our eyes and ears, because sometimes a good time blocks the clear view on reality.

GERMAN SHORT PIECES
CINEMA RELEASE in Hungary: 16. March 2006

After the great start of NIGHT OF THE SHORTS in Hungary in 2005, the international short film label comes once again to Hungarian cinemas in cooperation with Szimpla Film Kft. Last year NIGHT OF THE SHORTS reached a total of 3.500 viewers in this small country with its internationally acclaimed short film programme EUROPEAN AWARDS .

This time W-film Film Distribution wants to top its output: from 16th of March Hungarian audiences will experience the creative world of German short films with the GERMAN SHORT PIECES. The 7 creative German short film productions will start in cinemas in Budapest and cinemas close to the city. They will show the young as well as the experienced stars of German cinema such as Jasmin Tabatabai, Franka Potente and Walter Giller on the big screen.

The protagonists of the films must fight in a charming way with problems that are not only typically German but also universal. The short films demonstrate different ways of the German language and culture in their own way. Besides that they show important historical and also present ways of life in Germany.

The GERMAN SHORT PIECES belong to the Country Special of the NIGHT OF THE SHORTS, with which W-film connects entertainment with cultural ambition. The film distribution encourages with this short film programme especially German productions and offers popular filmmakers such as Frank Griebe and Natja Brunkhorst (directors of LA MER) and talented newcomers such as Edina Kontsek (DER SCHÜLER, German Shortfilm Prize 2003) the possibility of presenting themselves abroad.
